What Makes an S-Tier Relic?
S-tier relics like Ice Cream, Gambling Chip, and Bag of Preparation provide unconditional value in every run regardless of deck strategy. Ice Cream preserves unspent energy between turns, enabling explosive burst turns. Gambling Chip gives a free mulligan at combat start, fixing any bad opening hand. These are almost always correct picks.
How Are Relic Rankings Determined?
Rankings reflect universal value across all five classes — Ironclad, Silent, Regent, Necrobinder, and Defect. Relic tier placements are based on consistent community play and patch analysis. Ancient and Starter relics are excluded from this list. Rankings update with every major Mega Crit patch. See all patch changes →
Best Relics for Each Character
While most relics are universal, some shine for specific classes. Runic Capacitor is transformative for Defect. Ninja Scroll powers Silent Shiv builds. Funerary Mask is a top-tier Necrobinder pick. Fencing Manual accelerates Regent Forge strategies. Data Disk enables Defect Focus builds from turn one.
New STS2 Relic Mechanics
Slay the Spire 2 introduces Durability — some relics have limited activations per combat. Wax Relics are temporary relics obtained from Act 2 Ancients that melt away every 3 combats. New status effects like Corrosion and Pierce affect how block-amplifying relics perform. Factor these in when evaluating relic picks.

Slay the Spire 2 S-Tier Relics — Must Pick (18 relics)
- Anchor (S-Tier) — Start each combat with 10 Block.
- Bag of Preparation (S-Tier) — At the start of each combat, draw 2 additional cards.
- Funerary Mask (S-Tier) — Whenever Osty attacks, gain 2 Block. (Necrobinder)
- Gambling Chip (S-Tier) — At the start of combat, discard any number of cards from your hand, then draw that many.
- Ghost Seed (S-Tier) — Whenever you gain Gold, raise your Max HP by 1.
- Gorget (S-Tier) — At the start of each combat, gain 4 Plated Armor.
- History Course (S-Tier) — At the start of the next combat, Upgrade your starting hand.
- Horn Cleat (S-Tier) — At the start of your 2nd turn, gain 14 Block.

- Byrdpip (A-Tier) — Upon pickup, gain the card Byrd Swoop. A Byrdpip will accompany you in battle.

- Blood Vial (B-Tier) — At the start of each combat, heal 2 HP.
- Bone Tea (B-Tier) — Every 5 cards you add to your deck, heal 15 HP.

- Big Mushroom (C-Tier) — Upon pickup, raise your Max HP by 20. At the start of each combat, draw 2 fewer cards.
- Bone Flute (C-Tier) — Whenever Osty attacks, gain 2 Block. (Necrobinder)
- Bookmark (C-Tier) — At the end of each turn, lower the cost of a random Retained card by 1 until played.
- Brimstone (C-Tier) — At the start of your turn, gain 2 Strength and ALL enemies gain 1 Strength.

- Parrying Shield (D-Tier) — If you end a turn with at least 10 Block, deal 6 damage to a random enemy.
